![]() ![]() At our hotel and at various area restaurants I made inquiries about the "Emerald Necklace", but no one seemed to know what I was talking about even though the parkway has been in place for almost 100 years! There is no "emerald necklace" signage that will let you know you on the right road. If you plan to drive "the necklace" here a couple of tips: The Visitor's Bureau and Trip Advisor call it the Emerald Necklace but nobody else does. What a delight to see this magnificent community asset getting so much use. There is a separate paved bicycle path that is parallel to much of "the necklace" and it was filled with cyclists, hikers, roller skaters, joggers and rollerbladers. The "necklace" connects many of the Cuyahoga County's regional parks (aka Reservations). A short drive on I 90 East brought us to the West Side Market for lunch at the Great Lakes Brewery. Our drive ended north of the Cleveland airport on the city's west side just short of Interstate 90. With the top down in our shinny red Miata, we started at Beechwood, Ohio in Cleveland's southeast suburbs and drove this beautiful limited access parkway for more than 70 miles. My bride and I drove the Emerald Necklace on a sunny and warm Saturday morning early in June. Conditions are poor and the services are less then satisfactory I would not recommend this course at this time. Our golf league has played Sleepy Hollow Golf course for over 35 years and we play Big Met every Fall. We have never been treated like this before. This is a public course funded by tax dollars. But who would want to if they are gonna be treated they way we were. If they put that money into the course People would come. They spend all those advertising dollars publicizing the course trying to get people to play there. Once more the course was not in the condition we had grown accustomed to. We tried to explain what was going on but He didn’t care!īig Met and it’s employees seem to think it is okay to discriminate against handicap people. We teed off and got to the There hole and the course Ranger comes over and Says He’s taking our flag because the started had no business giving it to us in the first place. They have always been very accommodating. We were used to being treated in this way buy the employees. We have played the Metro Parks for over 30 years. We talked to the Started a real nice guy explained what was going on and He gave up a Handicap Flag for our friend so He could cross at 90 degrees. The course rule for the day was cart path only. One of our group has a heart condition, He is also 86 Years old. There is a Safety Committee Meeting on Wednesday where details of the Cleveland Police policing plan for the rest of the summer are expected to be announced.We visited Big Met Golf Course to play a round of golf.
